Covering Liverpool ( A continuation of can Liverpool's Underground going Overground)

Okay, so I thought I'd blog as I just had an amazing reception from AWF - A blog will be posted soon as pictures and video's are done (:

I'm in such a blogging mood...

Anyways, I digress.

I found myself talking to Topboi & N'empire today about Liverpool's underground scene - between all the artists, it is literally the topic of conversation that will never die until someone is recognised.

So, let's re cap.

Liverpool has an underground movement, the support however is minimal.
And I'm not talking about the crowd.

So this whole Wiley thing about him "moving to Liverpool".
(For the record, I am not cussing the man, I rate him!)
So everyone's jumping on the "Wiley Hype"
(He should sooo make a song called this!)

Everyone knows that we now have someone to help us onto the musical map. He has already done tracks with our very own Miss Myers, Kof, Chelcee Grimes & Keshia Santos - I will be talking about this in a hot second!

So, big up to Wiley for that! He's making movements and helping artists.
But, on a level. I'm not hating, but our own artists don't even want to do tracks with us - I mean what's that all about?

We have the E-Laborators, Myself, Stylie, N'Empire, Topboi, Alliee, Future..
and the list really goes on.
Myself, I am more than happy to collaborate, but then we have these egos. Bad, bad egos.

For example, Fire You Up by Wiley ft. Kof & Chelcee Grimes - and everyone is forgetting my lovely Keshia Santos.
Keshia Santos IS on this chorus.

So, it gets played on 1Xtra, Kwame shouts out to everyone apart from Keshia - parr.

Keshia is in the video.
Keshia deserves to be mentioned.

So, we have this ego.. Now again for the record I am not hyping, trying to start beef or hating, but apparently, Keshia has been told that she is only on the track to "Spice it up"..

yeah okay..
a kick ass singer like her.
"Seen."

The track is sick tho'!

But this starts beef, imagine you were on a track with one of the UK's hottest grime artists and you get no recognition. Not having that at all. So why tell someone that they were just put on the track to "Spice it up"?
Biggest Egotistical Statement of 2010.

Artists here are helping nobody.

I was reminiscing with N'Empire & Topboi today saying how certain artists promised to bring to attention Liverpool's talent if they blew up. So we supported, bigged them up, helped them. And now their heads are so swollen that it's every man and woman for themselves.

We want to be big and get plays. But we won't even help the people that helped us get there.
Lovely.
Hospitality here is the worst.
We have artists saying the same thing and still they're not willing to work with anybody. I mean, if you don't want to do a track with someone just say "Oh, I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think I want to.." - or something along those lines. Don't just air out a question or say "yeah" and long it - that's how you start to get disrespect.
Then there comes the beef.

And it's not nice. I remember back in 2006 and artists were helping everybody, we all had that hunger and the music scene was a strong and well connected...
4 years on, what the f**k happened?!

So certain people's heads started to swell. People started to see themselves as "famous" because they're doing bigger shows and what not - I mean so what, right now, I would be more than happy to do shows for free and just connect with the crowd rather than be paid and have some balloon head.

I mean, still big up for getting out there, but until you're internationally known like Beyonce and Gaga and Alicia - pipe down and have some humble pie!
(and this has nothing to do with what I am saying but while it's in my head.. Seriously that "Beyonce" look a like from big brother with her boobs out on the front cover of a "lads mag" calling herself the "Bigger Boobed Beyonce"
- seriously?! - urhhhh! She can have a serving of humble pie too!)

But yeah.

I just decided to rant again, this whole underground scene going overground is a hot, hot topic and I barely want to say too much in case it starts some kind of beef like I'm trying to cuss.

On levels, all the Urban artists of Liverpool need to check their heads, eat some pie, and just sort out all of our problems with each other in a room. Everyone should jump on one track and we should be a movement.
I AM A LIVERPOOL ARTIST.
WHAT ARE YOU?

(:

All the artists of Liverpool should get a t-shirt with this on (':

And it's a sick idea and you know it (':

I actually even made a quick design...

  1. Paisleigh! U make some good points....i'd read your blog again! But do us a flava!---i hate the fact liverpool is being converted to some sort of commercial cosmopolitan and i think this whole "LVP" thing makes it look like we wanna be "LDN" or " NYC" or whatever, which, as Liverpool artists, we both know isn't true. Plus if anything,i'd say it'd probably be "LPL" over "LVP" anyway....sowt it owt?! Keep rantin tho, if u ain't got an opinion u ain't got shit.
