Make Up, Fakery & All Things Pretty (:

Welcome to the contents of my bag

(and this is a light load because I was out raving)

Guys think it's a dangerous place to enter,
well it is.

This blog's just a few tips for girls because I'm seeing too many disasters.

Such as this poor, poor, poor girl.
POD's worst enemy.

So as you can see. She's got dodgy fake tan.
Fingermarks all over her face where she's tried to blend her make up.
Her eyelashes (even though they are kind of fabulous lol) are way too much.
The foundation she's used is way too dark.
Her lipstick is not nice.
She's put her blusher in the wrong place.
She's gone too heavy with the eye liner.
She's used the eye liner wrong.
And she's used the same eye liner to draw her eyebrows and this is smudged into her make up too.

Under the slap, she's probably nice.

How do I avoid this?
Simples.

Right.
It takes a lot of time to be able to do your make up well. So practise, experiment and get used to your face.
If you need guidance, YouTube videos are a good thing to look at.

Or even better.
These books are godsent.

For most women;

And this book especially for teens and students;

These books are like bibles to me.

They are really worth looking at and investing in.

My Make Up
So my skin tone is quite average for a mixed race girl;
I'm Chinese, Brazilian & Dominican Rep.

I hardly ever have spots, and if I do they are unnoticeable.
That's because I ex-foliate my skin once a week, wash it daily with a gentle face wash, tone daily and moisturise.
Girls, you need to do this.
Your skin is your true foundation.

I don't have any preference facial wash, but I use tea tree as it's the most well known.
I get all my tea tree products from boots.
Always read the back of what you get and make sure it's gentle enough to use daily.

Tip: Tea Tree Medicated Concealer is an investment! (Available from boots)
NEVER GET CONCEALER THAT IS THE SAME COLOUR OR DARKER COLOUR OF YOUR SKIN.

Okay, so here's my normal make up routine and products.

PREP YOUR SKIN
-Before I put anything on my skin; wash, tone, moisturise.
Then I pluck my eyebrows - GIRLS DON'T SHAVE THEM OFF AND DRAW THEM ON!

EYES FIRST
-When ever eye shadow is involved; do this first before putting on any foundation.
This will avoid splash and spill onto your make up (:
Browns are more natural for a day to day basis; and these neutral colours work more with most eyes and shapes.
Blacks and more daring colours are for night outs, parties etc.. and you can find amazing tutorials on Youtube.
Remember:
Your eyes are the windows to your soul, represent them.

When you've done your eyes, use make-up wipes to remove and splash/spill.
Line the top of your eyes with liquid liner.
DON'T CHANGE THE SHAPE OF YOUR EYES.

Line the bottom with brown/black. And do not line them heavy.
Depending on eye shape is how far along the bottom of your eye you line.
If your eyes are close together only line your eyes half way across to make them seem further apart.

FOUNDATION
Find a foundation that is not darker than your skin.
If you are ever unsure about foundation ask!
Or if you can not find your skin colour foundation, get one shade lighter and use a bronzer - only ever do this is desperate times.

If you have any blemishes or dark circles, use a small lip brush to lightly apply concealer prior to your foundation.

ALWAYS USE BRUSHES/SPONGES FOR YOUR MAKE UP.
I have Yellow Tones in my skin. (Like most mixed race, latino and chinese girls).
My best advice is to buy a good foundation.

For me the best foundations are by MAC Make-Up.
They have different variations.

For me, I like a thicker foundation as I only really wear make up for performances and clubbing.
I use
"MAC MAKE UP FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATION"
(Colour C40)
£20 MAC Store or Online

I prefer using a brush to apply foundation as I think it's a lot cleaner and less messy. Plus I find that I get more of an even tone.
Using your finger tips is ok when applying foundation, but make sure your hands are clean and that you wash them straight away.

Foundation is not to cover your whole face, it is to even out skin tone.
This is why it should really be the colour of your skin.

MAC make up has EVERY TONE.

Avoid putting foundation on eyelids and eyebrows.

AFTER
Shape your eyebrows. If necessary, colour/fill your eyebrows with a pencil that is the same colour as your natural hair.
Don't redraw and re shape them.

After this use a translucent powder to set your foundation.

Apply your mascara.
Mascara is for both sets of lashes.

I use:
"Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara"
£18 (Anywhere that sells Urban Decay)

Tip: Waterproof mascara - ALWAYS

After applying mascara, wait till it dries then use eyelash curlers to give them the Va Va Voom <3

CONTOURING & HIGHLIGHTING
Isn't always necessary.
Again, there are great YouTube tutorials.

I use MAC Contouring Kit.
(Prices Vary)

First start with the contour.
Using a contour brush, lightly sweep a dark powder on your cheek bones and bring it up.
Also, from your eyebrows towards your nostrils - makes your nose appear smaller.

Highlight were natural light would hit your face: t-zone and cheeks.

BLUSH
Should be applied using a blusher brush and should be the colour you turn when you exercise for a natural look.
Apply the blush on the APPLES of your cheeks.

LIPS
Use a nice natural looking colour or gloss.
I like to use a clear plumping gloss on mine which is from boots for £15.
Keep lips looking natural for day to day looks. Colours like red are for nights out.

So that's my natural day look.

A few of my tips (:
Hope you find them handy :D

AND REMEMBER:

Make up is to help enhance your natural beauty, not cover it up.
